Scooby Stew is a gently cooked healthy addition to your dog’s diet. It is not meant to substitute for commercially prepared dog food, but is a very palatable addition to your dog’s regular food. Dog’s love it, and it can generally convince even the most picky eaters to dig in.
This recipe makes a very large slow cooker full of food. I use it as a guideline-amounts can be varied, ingredients omitted or switched. The recipe can be halved easily. The cooked food can be portioned and frozen.
Ingredients
1.5 kg ground turkey, beef, or meat of your choice
3 cups brown rice
6-8 cups water
1 package chicken or beef liver, cut in pieces
2 cans sardines in water (add the water to the pot). Mackerel works fine here, too
1 sweet potato, cubed. Cubed carrots if desired
3 cups green beans (or broccoli or spinach)
2 cups blueberries (frozen are fine)
1/4 cup coconut oil
Method:
Place ground meat, chopped liver, cubed sweet potato and carrot if using, brown rice and water into slow cooker. Cook on high heat for about 3 hours.
Add canned fish beans/broccoli, and blueberries and cook another 2-3 hours until rice is cooked and liquid is mostly absorbed. Add coconut oil at the end of cooking.
